Financial Tip:
“I have learned how to be content with whatever I have. I know how to live on almost nothing or with everything. I have learned the secret of living in every situation, whether it is with a full stomach or empty, with plenty or little.” Philippians 4:11-12
Fun Facts:
-
I grew up in a family of 11, including two adopted siblings. I have six brothers and two sisters, of which I am the second to youngest. We still get together every Christmas with all our families, which totals 45 people.
-
I ran the Des Moines marathon in 2011 and can say it was one of the biggest physical and mental challenges I’ve endured. I also consider it one of my biggest accomplishments.
-
I won tickets to the Oprah finale show in 2011 which coincided with a trip we had already planned to Chicago for our 10-year anniversary. Sadly, there were no giveaways, but there were many celebrities there, including some of my favorites Tom Hanks, Michael Jordan and Beyonce.
-
My travel destination of choice is Marco Island, Florida. We are regular visitors and enjoy the beautiful beach, the grouper sandwiches (found at nearly every restaurant) and the friendly people there.

Personal:
Math was always my strongest subject in school growing up. My eighth-grade teacher is the one who encouraged me to pursue a career where I could use these skills.
Although I was a finance major in college, personal finance did not become “real” to me until I had my first child and was working in a job that required lots of long hours, travel and little time at home. I remember taking a week off work over the holidays and realizing that I could create a different lifestyle for myself and my family by how diligently I managed our personal finances. The following year I was able to make some changes that allowed me more time at home and less stress for myself and my family overall. This was a pivotal life learning moment for me, and I continue to be passionate about all things personal finance for this reason.
My husband Jeremy and I have two children, Maddy and Colby. Maddy is living her best life at the University of Iowa and Colby attends Waukee high school and enjoys playing on the basketball team. Jeremy works as an IT sales agent for Carrier Access in Clive and as a LifePlan guide with Paterson Group.
We attend Lutheran Church of Hope in West Des Moines and are involved in various ministries there. In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends and family, attending my son’s basketball games, visiting my daughter in Iowa City and watching Iowa State Cyclones sporting events. Occasionally, I will even go to a Hawkeye game.
My life verse:
“Walk with me and work with me, watch how I do it. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:29-30
