Director of Business Development


The Director of Business Development (BD) is responsible for driving sales growth for the company. We provide a training period to learn about our unique and in-depth approach to complex financial planning and investment management.

The Director of BD develops sales activities through relationship building and identifying prospects matching our unique target clientele. The Director of BD introduces the prospect to a member of the Planning team, who will then identify the prospect’s objectives, propose the opportunity we can provide, and close the contract sale. 

Syverson Strege is an independent, fee-only RIA, providing comprehensive financial planning and investment management to approximately 500 households. 

Our team approach is suited for households with complex financial situations, including business owners and executives. We specialize in philanthropic planning and enjoy working with clients who want to use their resources to better their community.

We want to impact as many families and communities as possible and need a strong Director of Business Development to help further that growth.

This role has a pay-for-production agreement with a generous incentive for new contracts. The pay structure is uncapped.

Essential Functions:

  • Identify and meet with prospective clients who meet our target client criteria 
  • Articulate Syverson Strege’s value proposition to prospects 
  • Establish rapport with prospects 
  • Attend events to give Syverson Strege greater community visibility 
  • Create follow-up strategies involved after events to maximize the opportunities 
  • Build new and continue to develop current relationships with COIs and other professionals who would contribute to the growth of the firm

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree required 
  • 10+ years of proven sales experience 
  • Knowledge of the financial services industry

Certificates, Licenses, Professional Designations: 

  • Series 65 license, or Series 7 or 66 if active within the last two years (required or able to obtain)

Event Marketing Manager

The Event Marketing Manager is responsible for driving prospect leads and brand awareness through an event-based marketing program.  

  • Develops prospects through event-based marketing activities
  • Identifies and develops an event calendar 
  • Attends community events and association conferences to network and generate prospects

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Plan events on financial topics that will generate prospects to attend 
  • Manage event marketing materials 
  • Track event success metrics 
  • Attend relevant community events to extend our brand awareness and drive event attendance 
  • Articulate Syverson Strege’s value proposition to prospects 
  • Establish rapport with prospects 
  • Hand off prospect leads to the Planning team

Core Competencies:

  • Proven event organization and sales history 
  • Highly motivated
  • Ability to meet event/prospect goals 
  • Comfortable with a flexible work atmosphere (office and off-site meetings) 
  • Skilled at forming new relationships 
  • Strong ability to build rapport Implement brand promises (“we only work for you”). 
  • Proficiency with graphic design programs (i.e. Adobe InDesign preferred), Eventbrite, Constant Contact, Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint.

Required Education and Experience:

Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role. Experience working with digital marketing technology and content creation.
